Traces

There are more than 108 million people on the run – they are fugitives, refugees, asylum seekers. Between them and their dreams of their future in rich countries lay heavily guarded borders. The only course of action they have is to take illegal routes.
Wherever unknown refugees try to cross borders, they leave traces that tell their story but simultaneously leave questions. These objects are inextricably linked to their former owners. But where do they come from? Why did they flee into the unknown? What fears, what hopes do they have? Above all - are they still alive? These fates are shown by the traces and need serious consideration.
That is why I have visited forgotten borders and documented the objects that refugees have lost or had taken from them during their pushback.  Each of these items tells the story of a person and its life.

About me

Making the invisible visible is one of my principles as a photographer. I tell stories about people, their lives and their problems with quiet tones. As a trained journalist, I often mix reportage work and artistic photography.

In my work, I look behind the façade and address social, ecological and psychological issues. I make images with a strong aesthetic appeal, which also convey a message that encourages reflection and promotes social awareness.

Every photo tells a story, be it about diversity, equality, sustainability or other issues that I support passionately. My photos are meant to encourage people to think outside the box, challenge preconceptions and create a world where aesthetics and social awareness go hand in hand.
